Forest rights lease becomes the basis of a happy life for the landless Samal Kudiyam…

The ambitious scheme of the Chhattisgarh government to provide forest land ownership rights to forest dwellers who have been holding forest land for many years, has become the basis of life for tribal landless Samal Kudiyam under Bijapur Tehsil of the district. Previously, after getting the Samal Kudiyam forest rights lease of other farmers, who have worked as agricultural laborers, now with full hard work and dedication, they have become farmers by farming.

Appreciating the state government’s plan, farmer Samal Kudiyam said that his father had been holding this land for nearly 26 years, but there was a worry about getting the ownership of the said land. But as a result of sensitive decision of Chhattisgarh government, it has fulfilled its years old wish by getting the Forest Rights Certificate of this land
And this land is proving to be a boon for the maintenance of his family. Samal Kudiyam says that his family had occupied this land for years due to farming and emotional bonding. After father’s death about 10 years ago, he was cultivating this land continuously.

As a result of the decision of the state government, getting the forest land recognition certificate of the said land, about 0.898 hectare, about 2 acres 30 acres, is like a dream come true for him. With the grant of forest rights, he has now taken crop loans twice through the Kisan Credit Card, which is helping the farmers.
Samal Kudiyam said that today, along with paddy on this cultivated land, they are producing maize as well, and as a result of producing enough food grains, they are easily living a 6-member family.
Samal said that last year he had sold 30 quintals of paddy to the Lamps Society. During this period, 54 thousand 450 rupees of paddy was deposited in his bank account, from where he deposited crop loan amount of 15 thousand rupees.


At the same time, as a result of the decision of the state government to pay the remaining amount of the balance from the Rajiv Kisan Yojana directly on the account of the farmers, in the first installment of Rs 5 thousand 138.Samal says that during the difficult times when all the businesses were closed, the Rajiv Kisan Nyaya Yojana was funded in such a difficult time and as a result, the family got help in fulfilling the most important tasks of the family.

On his recent visit to Samal Kudiyam on his farm, he told that this year too, he has planted a paddy crop in the said land and has sown a line of maize in about half an acre farm.
Samal expresses his gratitude to the state government for giving him the lease of his tenured forest land, saying this is the government’s greatest gift to the landless people like us who are proving helpful for the maintenance of the family.
